Storm's A Brewin
The past few weeks have been good!! Sister Daly and I have been having a grand time here in Oviedo hahaha!
We had Zone Conference and interviews with President which were both amazing. After interviews, Sister Daly and I decided to stop at Crumble on the way home because we don't have one in our area and the flavors looked too good to pass up- we just had to stop! When we got there the worker was a member and gave us free cookies then as we were leaving, he brought out one of his co--workers who was wondering who we were. We were able to teach her a little bit about what we do as missionaries and she was super interested-miracles! The rest of the week sister Daly was super sick so we kinda just hung out inside, but it was still fun. I did a LOT of reading and cleaning lol.
We did a service for an "inventor" this week. It was super weird and in the middle of nowhere again. He had furniture strapped to the top of his car and just wanted us to get it down.... but there was a big fat hornets nest in the furniture and I about cried! It was my worst nightmare but I braved through haha. The guy kept calling us his heros and told us he was gonna be a billionaire one day and would buy us a pizza? Super weird. He also introduced us to his mannequin named Jo Coo???
This past week was supposed to be super full with tons of lessons scheduled and we were so excited but then every single one fell through :( so we decided to go street contacting at the park by our house and it turned out it was Oktoberfest! Essentially it was a big beer party hahaha. It was so funny-we felt as outta place as two lil missionaries could be but I was having a great time and it definitely lifted our spirits after a slow week!
A miracle we had this week was Natonia. She was an online referral and we couldn't get ahold of her so we decided to stop by her house. She answered the door and was SO sweet. We told her about our Church and gave her a book of Mormon and she started crying and gave us both a big hug and said she knew this was a sign from God. We invited her to read the Book of Mormon and she's actually been reading it which is so amazing and she said she really wants to come to church!
Vanessa was another miracle. A couple weeks ago we went over her house to drop off cookies and her friend screamed at us, told us we were in a cult and said if we ever came back she'd call the cops. We weren't planning on going back obviously but texted Vanessa and she was so sweet and apologized for her friends behavior and told us we could come over anytime. She said she would really like to come to our meetings and invited us to her daughter's birthday party! So amazing!!
Alsoooooo back to the nail lady Dean and her husband Terry...... We were able to meet up with them again at a member's house and have dinner with them and watch The Chosen. It was SO much fun to see them. Also, If you haven't been able to watch The Chosen it's soo good! It depicts the disciples in such a real and genuine way and it got me thinking about how these people in the scriptures are REAL people they're not just stories, they were real people just like you and me and had real life challenges and trials and they also had real first hand accounts with Jesus. We learn so much from these stories but we can't discount our own stories with Jesus Christ. His hand and his influence is in every single one of our stories- we just have to be willing to recognize it. He truly is the "author and finisher of our faith" and is so present in our lives if we allow Him.
Here's a quote that I loved this week
"The Savior has promised that He will make us equal to His work. “Follow me,” He said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” As we follow Him, He blesses us with gifts, talents, and the strength to do His will, allowing us to go beyond our comfort zones and do things we’ve never before thought possible. This may mean sharing the gospel with neighbors, rescuing those who are spiritually lost, serving a full-time mission, working in the temple, raising a child with special needs, loving the prodigal, serving an ailing companion, enduring misunderstandings, or suffering affliction. It means preparing ourselves to answer His call by saying, “I’ll go where you want me to go; I’ll say what you want me to say; I’ll do what you want me to do; I’ll be what you want me to be.”
The Lord’s first disciples were all new members of the Church, newly converted to His gospel. Jesus patiently taught each one. He helped them fulfill their responsibilities. He called them His friends and laid down His life for them. And He has already done the same for you"
-Elder Robert D Hales "Being a More Christian Christian"
Well, we've been hurricane prepping all day, grabbing waters and food and supplies. They're evacuating the missionaries on the coast so we have some sisters coming to crash with us for a couple days which will be a fun adventure. Apparently the hurricane just keeps getting stronger and closer to us. President just told us that we couldn't leave our apartments after tomorrow at 2 soooo!
I love and miss you all! Please keep me posted!
