The Abundant Life
Ahhh this week was an interesting one full of ups and downs. This was the first week I think it sunk in that I'm on a MISSION mission hahahah. First transfer everything was shiny and new and I was honestly enjoying being the baby trainee cause I didn't have very much responsibility and I was straight vibin haha. This week it hit me that pretty soon I'm going to have a lot more responsibilities and fun things like that! I was kind of stressing and feeling inadequate and all the things like that, untillll I went on an exchange with sister Pferdner.
Sister Pferdner came to my area Oviedo and this would be first time I would be leading out the area which basically means in charge of lining up everything we did that day. (I'm telling you I've been so babied and it's been great haha) I was thinking, I'm already feeling pretty stressed, and now I have to lead out the area (I'm dramatic I know)? This ended up being the most amazing day! We had a lesson with Paulo and taught him the entire restoration, then his mom walked in and said "oh I believe Joseph Smith saw God and Jesus Christ." We were like huh?? That never happens right off the bat. It was a huge miracle! We then taught her the whole restoration. She told us we were welcome in her home whenever we liked. Afterward we went knocking and truly miracles upon miracles. Almost every door we knocked on except for two gave us their name and number and were very interested in our message. We also found people while we were walking around between the apartment complexes! It was one of those days that was filled with so much joy it made all the hard just better.
My companion Sister Siddoway and I attended a non denominational church on Wednesday. Honestly it was really fun haha. It was basically a concert and I understand why people like going. It was a big testimony builder for me however because when we went to church a couple days later the spirit was so strong- almost tangible and I felt a fulness of the spirit that I couldn't feel at the other church. I'm so grateful for the chance that we get to take the sacrament each week. It really is such a special thing to renew our covenants with God each week.
Another fun experience we had was going to an amazingly talented member's house to help with her daughter's wedding flowers. We learned how to make boutonnieres and bouquets and I was LIVING!!!!!!
Our awesome ward members really pulled through with dinner this week as well. One couple took us to 4 Rivers which I guess is a Florida classic- they told us it was something to write about in our emails back home so here we are haha! Another member couple took us to a restaurant called Heart of Jerusalem. It was like Greek food but even better. We ended the week at Bahama Breeze for some beautiful Carribean food. They take such good care of us. I made my mom promise to get a dinner gift card for the Sisters serving in her ward since they don't get fed. It means so much to us.
Last, it was Grandma's (our next door neighbor's) birthday this week. We brought her some flowers and decorated her house and she was just presh!
What I learned this week is Satan wants us to get discouraged and hard on ourselves when we face challenges or new things. Heavenly Father wants us to be motivated to grow and become better when we face the same challenges. It's really up to us to use our agency and decide which voice we want to listen to.
“I am come,” Jesus declared, “that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”We achieve that abundant life not by focusing on our own needs or on our own achievements but by becoming true disciples of Jesus Christ—by following in His ways and engaging in His work. We find the abundant life by forgetting ourselves and engaging in the great cause of Christ." Dieter f Uchtdorf "Believe Love Do"
We know for sure we are listening and hearing the Spirit not Satan when we are actively following the example of Jesus Christ. When we focus our lives on Jesus Christ it is a promise that we will live a more abundant and fulfilled life. I see and feel that every day on my mission and I just want everyone to be able to feel that too. If you haven't lately, do something that helps you reconnect with Jesus Christ. He loves you and wants to help you at all times!
I love you all! Keep sending emails-they make my day!
