Give Time a Chance
This week was solid! Even though the weather was either too hot to even attempt finding outside or pouring rain, we did as best we could! We have a couple of people we're teaching that could be getting ready for baptism! The struggle is getting them to 9:30 church. Apparently it's just too early hahaha
Our friend Henry was able to make it to church this week though which is a BIG win. He lives pretty far away and doesn't have a car, which means he has to bike in the Florida heat to come to church. But he came! And said he would come back next week!!
The youth in the Oviedo Ward are so amazing, They always welcome us right in and are so fun to hang out with! Sister Siddoway and I have been inviting them to come to teach lessons with us and they are always SO willing and excited. It amazes me because I was nothing like that at their age. I would have been terrified so they're great examples to me.
We did a bunch of service this week which I love so much because you can see right in front of you the good you're doing. Often in missionary work there's no immediate results to the work you're doing-it's mostly faith based with a hope that you're making a difference- which is amazing and powerful in its own way. Service is just a nice change of pace. So, for this weeks service we worked on a member of our ward's farm weeding, moving logs and farm stuff haha. Later, we helped a hoarder clean out her house which was pretty interesting....LOTS of cleaning!
The Sisters that we were living with moved out this week, It was sad and much more quiet but I will say we're actually getting to bed on time!
We had zone conference this week as well. Sister Schmeil told Sister Siddoway and I we looked like twins in her cute Brazilian accent. We learned a lot about how missionary work should be focused on loving people for who they are and meeting them where they're at instead of teaching memorized lessons to them. I love that so much.
This week I was kinda feeling a little bored because the weather was making it so hard for us to go out and actually do the work. But I learned an important lesson...the regular mundane days are just as important as the happy, exciting and even sad days. Those regular days are the steps in between. They prepare you for the amazingly wonderful things and the really hard things. Every single day counts! I don't know why this was such a concept to me because it seems so obvious but it really hit home. Small moments and days matter just as much as the big moments. I read this amazing talk called Keep Walking and Give Time a Chance. It says,
“True greatness … always requires regular, consistent, small, and sometimes ordinary and mundane steps over a long period of time"-President Howard W. Hunter.
How easy it is to want quick and dramatic results in exchange for a day’s labor! And yet how happy people are who have learned to bend to the rhythm of paced and steady progress—even to celebrate and delight in the ordinariness of life."
So I learned that I'm never going to be content if I always expect quick results because more often than not, that won't happen. That is where faith comes in. We choose faith and know that the little things we are doing everyday really do make a difference. God is aware of every effort and has a plan to bless those efforts in His own time. When I try my best to have this mindset, the little things and ordinary days don't seem so little anymore.
Anyway, I love you all! Keep me updated on you as well. I love your emails! I always read them when they come and I do my best to reply on Mondays!
Love,
Sister Campbell
